I grew up in the prairie town of Saskatoon, SK and have spent some time as a wildland firefighter and in bike sales and mechanics before landing in Vernon, BC to attend the Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy in 2019. I was moved to pursue a career in healthcare and rehabilitation after over 12 years focusing on competition in long track speed skating and road cycling.

I think soft tissue therapy can play a very valuable role in the management of chronic pain, facilitation of recovery from injury, and addressing nervous system dysregulation from stress or trauma. I chose this field because I hold a deep appreciation for feeling well in your body and the quality it brings to life. I try my best to offer the most efficient and effective care for each client, and this often involves spending some time re-educating body awareness and movement. Given the opportunity, I love talking about the ‘why’ behind the pain or other sensations we may feel in our bodies.

I have been enjoying different forms of movement for a long time, and I currently enjoy rock climbing, skiing, trail running, and lots of dog walks. I’m always poking away at learning new things and love to talk podcasts, books and courses.

I offer Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) which is helpful for muscular condition such as tennis/golfer’s elbow, rotator cuff and other muscle strains or injuries.

Pat McKinnon is an orthopaedic physiotherapist and Certified Gunn IMS practitioner who has been practicing throughout the Sea to Sky Corridor since 2008.

Hailing from the majestic foothills of Calgary, Alberta, Pat graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree from the University of Calgary in 2000. After spending the next few years immersing himself in the idyllic mountain culture of the Canadian Rockies, Pat decided to put all of his hard learned education to good use, so he moved to the west coast to complete his Masters of Physical Therapy degree at the University of British Columbia. Upon graduation in 2007, Pat promptly traded his boutique urban Kitsilano existence for the recreational paradise of the Sea to Sky Corridor, where he’s been practicing and living the dream ever since. He never intended for it to be a permanent move, but you know how that story goes…

A devoted practitioner, Pat greatly values working collaboratively with his clients, taking the time to to assess and treat their specific injury needs in a private, one-on-one clinical setting. He uses a variety of hands-on manual therapy techniques, in conjunction with individualized exercise prescription and focused re-training of dysfunctional movement patterns, in order to assist each client with achieving their personal rehabilitation goals.

Pat has post-graduate certifications in IMS and Active Release Techniques (ART), and has completed the Level 3 manual therapy curriculum through the Canadian Orthopaedic Division. He has a special interest in shoulder injuries and post-operative rehabilitation, but he is generally fascinated by the mind-blowing neuromuscular workings of the entire human body, and has undertaken extensive coursework targeting all of the major musculoskeletal regions.

When he’s not in the clinic, Pat is a borderline obsessive freeride snowboarding enthusiast, both on the resort and in the backcountry. He also enjoys pedalling trails, climbing mountains, surfing waves, eating tacos, and not-so-secretly rocking out to sweet ‘80s hair metal jams.
